INTRODUCTION OF USHER SYNDROME
Usher syndrome is a genetic disease defined by the change in genes. In which hearing capability and visual impairment loss due to mutation.
Loss of hearing capability leads to deafness. And the loss of vision is due to the degenerative retina at early adulthood. It also causes vision balance issue. But their symptoms vary from individual to individual.
Syndrome has 3 main categories;
- USH 1: The children born with the severe type of hearing loss and vision balancing problems. The first sign is night blindness and loss of peripheral vision. It usually appears in early childhood.
- USH 2: The children born with hearing impairment.
- USH 3: The children born with moderate hearing loss and vision loss which start at puberty.
It is caused by the mutation in at least 11 genes related to vision and hearing organs.
Symptoms of Usher syndrome;
- Deaf at birth
- Balance problems of eyes
- Vision problems
