Introduction

Telogen effluvium is the condition of thinning of scalp hair due to stress. It is non-scarring alopecia. It is the second most common type of hair loss/hair fall. The growth phase of hair is known as anagen while resting phase is known as telogen. Normal hair cycle disturb and hairs enter into telogen phase due to unhealthy eating habits, surgery, disease, illness, labor problems, hormonal changes, deficiency of vitamin D physiological stress and use of drugs. This condition is diagnosed by trichoscopy. The patient can recover from this condition within 6-8 months after proper treatment. This condition is most common in adults and almost every can experience this condition at some point in his life. Telogen effluvium can affect males and females both but due to hormonal changes, it is more common in females.

It can be of following types:

  • Acute telogen effluvium
  • Chronic telogen effluvium

Causes:

The main causes are following:

  • Allergic reactions
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Crash dieting
  • Childbirth
  • Surgery
  • Malignancy
  • Iron deficiency

NATURAL REMEDIES

These are effective remedies for the treatment of telogen effluvium.

Onion:

Onion is a rich source of sulfur which can enter the hair into its growth phase.

Remedy:

Take the juice of half onion by simply grinding it and then add 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil in it. Apply it to the scalp gently massage it and leave it for 35-45 minutes and then wash the hairs. Do it 1-2 times in a week.

Aloe Vera:

It contains the enzymes that are effective to provide the strength to hairs.

Remedy:

Apply the juice of Aloe Vera to the scalp and massage it with fingertips. Leave it for an hour then wash it. Repeat it thrice a week.

Egg:

As one cause of this condition is a deficiency of protein and egg white being a rich source of protein can cure this condition.

Remedy:

Take egg white mix it with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Apply it to scalp for 20-30 minutes and wash it.

Garlic:

It has high sulfur content which can promote the hair growth effectively.

Remedy:

Crush few cloves of garlic and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil in it and boil it. Let it cool at room temperature apply it for 15 minutes and then wash it.

Indian gooseberry:

Make a paste by adding powder of Indian gooseberry (Amla) and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Apply it to scalp for 30 minutes and then wash it.
