Introduction

Retrolisthesis is a medical condition in which a vertebra in spine becomes displaced and moves forward or backward. In most instances of vertebrae slippage, it will involve a forward movement of an upper vertebra, which will slip toward chest. Actually, the backward movement is less common but in people with degenerative disorders, it still occurs with considerable frequency.

Causes

  • The leading cause of retrosynthesis in older people is arthritis, which usually leads to weakening of their disc tissue.

There are few exercises which are used to lessen the severity of symptoms of retrolisthesis. It is used to get rid of the pain. These exercises give strength to lower back and spine and give support to pelvis and hip joint.

  • Lower back rolls

    This is the exercise in which stretches for the lower back. Few people are even unable to do this but those people who do this on the regular base feels relieve from pain. Slowly lift your knees to the chest and fasten your hands collectively behind the knees. Allow the body roll to the left slowly and then go back to the normal position. Rest for 5 seconds and do the same exercise on the right side.

Hip rolls

This is the exercise in which stretches for the lower back and spine which give strength to these parts and play a role as a support of pelvis and hip joint. Standing, Position your hands on a wall or on the chair to stable you physically. Balance your weight on one leg. The second leg should bend slightly at the knee. You should be in such posture that the leg bearing your weight should touch the floor. Keeping the ball of the foot of your weight bearing leg on the floor and turn around your knee outward and then inward slowly. Repeat this exercise by repeating your leg.

Pelvic tilts

While lying on the floor bend the knees and pull your abdomen in toward the floor. Then sway the top of your pelvis upwards to some extent and hold for 10 seconds and then relax.
