Introduction:

It is nail disorder. Black or brown pigmentation of the nail plate is termed as melanonychia. It is of two types. One is a longitudinal pattern and the other is a transverse pattern. People with dark skin are at higher risk of melanonychia. A nail with the pigmented band can be an indication of melanoma. It can occur in the individuals of any age and in both sexes equally. Melanonychia can be an indication of skin cancer. Moreover, it may be developed with the result of chemotherapy.

Causes:

The main causes of it include;

  • Fungal infection
  • Trauma or injury
  • Chemotherapy
  • Subungual melanoma
  • Dark skin
  • Nail biting
  • Pregnancy
  • Radiations
  • Use of drugs

Symptoms:

Symptoms include;

  • Colored band on nails
  • Changed appearance of nails
  • Pain
  • Ulcers

TEA TREE OIL FOR MELANONYCHIA

Tea tree oil works best against melanonychia. It is a natural disinfecting agent that possesses anti-fungal and antiseptic properties.

Ingredients:

  • Tea tree oil (2-3 drops)
  • Coconut oil (2-3 drops)
  • Cotton balls

Remedy:

Mix tea tree oil and coconut oil together. Soak a cotton ball in the mixture and placed over the eyelid for 10 minutes. Try it twice a day until eye recover.
